Position: Regional Research Coordinator, Asian Partnership on Avian Influenza Research (APAIR)
Mission: Asian Partnership on Avian Influenza Research is formed by building joint work among different institutions in the most severely affected Asian countries to fight avian influenza in the region. The partnership is supported by Canada’s International Development Research Centre (IDRC).
The 5 specific functions of the governing structure of the partnership were agreed including (1) management of research collaboration; (2) support research capacity building; (3) information sharing; (4) networking among researchers/institutions; (5) advocacy for changes in practice, tools and policy.
Position Duties and Responsibilities:
The Asian Regional Research Coordinator shall be hired aiming to serve the PSC to meet its ultimate goal of the Partnership which is a collaboration of initially 5 of the most affected countries in Asia. The goal is a research of which there is considerable value in working regionally and collaboratively. Research areas will be jointly decided accordingly. The job description includes,
(i) Serving as the secretariat of PSC;
(ii) Providing significant technical support to the work of the teams of researchers and the development of projects and proposals;
(iii) Managing communications and documentation to run the Partnership and the APAIR Steering Committee (SC) activities, including managing the day-to-day organization and business of the Partnership;
(iv) Managing organizational and logistical arrangements for the Partnership and SC meetings;
(v) Encouraging and supporting national activities of the national coordinating focal points;
(vi) Encouraging and supporting the works of the research groups including technical and administrative assistance where possible;
(vii) Supporting the review quality assurance process;
(viii) Supporting collaborative research of research groups;
(ix) Supporting regional competitive mechanism and grant management;
(x) Supporting research capacity building of participating countries;
(xi) Establishing the Partnership network by sharing information relevant to national and regional coordination;
(xii) Preparing an annual report of the Partnership achievements.
Qualification Requirements:
The Asian Regional Research Coordinator should have research skills critical to the provision of technical assistance to the research teams, be an excellent communicator and coordinator, and an experienced manager. The Asian Regional Research Coordinator should be an Asian nationality but not necessary the nationality of the country in which the Coordinating Office is located.
The successful candidate will be at least Master degree qualified in public health, veterinary, livestock, economics or other related field, with excellent proficiency in English to manage the APAIR Coordinating Office. Work will take place at the APAIR Coordinating Office, located at the Health Systems Research Institute, Ministry of Public Health of Thailand. Field visits to the Partnership country members if necessary.
